Before you see it, you smell it.Olive oil warming, garlic turning gold, meatballs slow-cooking in tomato. Aubergine fried and layered with mozzarella. Clams opened in white wine.Rice stirred black with squid ink. This is Sicilian cooking, the way the island eats it.

Dinner by the bay la sala

One wall of the dining room is the sea: a painted Sicilian harbour, turquoise water, a town climbing the hill behind it.

Cart wheels hang on the walls. A little painted carretto stands on the old oak dresser, between the olive oil and the clock. A living wall of green frames the door, and every table is laid with a white cloth and a few small flowers. Step in off a Cambridge street and you are on the Sicilian coast.
